Chart notes
BERGHEIM broke out at the start and caused some problems for the runners in the adjacent stalls, then was hustled to join a pair of rivals on the lead, vied inside to the turn then pulled clear in the stretch with TEXAS CREED, staged a spirited duel through the stretch with that rival, gained the advantage inside the sixteenth and just barely held off a fast-closing challenger to the outside. COALCOWBOY was pinched at the start and was last away, settled at the rear and ridden patiently down the backstretch, was still last with three furlongs to run then went eight wide at the top of the stretch and produced a bold rally under steady handling and just missed. TEXAS CREED broke outward and into SUMMER HELP but was still first to the front, soon joined by RIPSTER and BERGHEIM on either side, cleared off from the rest with the latter named rival then widened the margin while going head-to-head down the lane, gave way inside the sixteenth pole and was unable to save the place. PAINTED LAD took a bump from SUMMER HELP at the start, then went unhurried and allowed to settle from the break, raced last and three wide down the backside, worked over to the rail before the turn then angled out to about the seven path for the stretch run, produced a good rally under urging and was making up ground late. CHASING COYOTES a bit slow into stride but responded when roused to get forward position, took up at the seven-sixteenths pole but was able to maintain position on the turn, lacked room late and steadied again on the turn then rallied up the rail once clear but was outkicked in the late stages. FLYING CAESAR raced three to four wide in the back half of the field, stayed on that path through the turn, launched a mild rally from the quarter pole but went flat late. RIPSTER broke well and was on the pace three wide to the turn, dropped off the pace leaving the three furlong pole, was being ridden to keep close to the leaders at that point but was unable to offer up anything in the stretch. DAPILOT was having to be coaxed to keep contact with the field after the break, swung about eight wide into the stretch then angled back to the inside but was unable find clear running and finished evenly. KING ADOLIS broke in at the start putting the two runners in the adjacent stalls in some peril, raced between horses in mid-pack through the early stages, lacked room on the turn then came seven wide into the stretch then took up when a rival took the path, lost momentum and could not recover. SUMMER HELP bumped from the inside at the start then tracked three wide in the middle of the pack and lacked a rally. FAMOUS HIGHWAY took up at the start when the inside rival took the path the rushed into contention down the backstretch to a tracking position just behind the pacesetters, saved ground to the stretch then tired. MIDNIGHT HUMOR raced close up four to five wide down the backstretch, bid for the lead after passing the five-sixteenths pole then stopped in the stretch.
