Chart notes
BREAKOUT STAR anxious in the gate, was allowed to settle from the break and content to travel mid-pack to the half-mile marker, was asked to pick up the pace into the far turn then ranged up in-hand to take the lead passing the five-sixteenths pole cornered three wide into the stretch then had trouble keeping a straight course while under alternating left and right handed urging but had enough left to hold safe from a challenger on the outside. LINE TO GAIN steadied slightly after taking a bump from ALVIN at the start, lacked early speed and settled near the back two wide, bided time for the first half then advanced into contention on the turn, was put to strong encouragement in the stretch and got within a length of the winner but had to settle for second best. SLAVA UKRAINI got caught three wide into the first turn, always close up, stayed that path down the backstretch to the far turn, pulled away from the rest with BREAKOUT STAR leaving the three-eighths pole, had trouble changing leads and could not match strides with that rival in the late stages, while almost getting caught late for the third spot. MYSTIFIER settled mid-pack and content to track the pace to the far turn, made a three wide into the stretch, was slowly gaining up the rail and just missed out on a minor award. ANCIENT MAN was a bit slow into stride then reserved near the back of the field through the early stages then fell further behind heading into the far turn, was kept to task and passed a couple of tired ones in the stretch but was otherwise unable to make an impact. ALVIN made light contact with LINE TO GAIN at the break, then was hustled from the start and secured the rail and the early lead on the first turn, was being shadowed by I'M YOUR CAPTAIN and later SLAVA UKRANI to the outside, gave way readily with three furlongs to runas the pace noticeably quickened then had little to offer in the stretch. I'M YOUR CAPTAIN came away well and stalked the early pace from the two path, put a head in front late on the backstretch run, then ran out of gas on the far turn and had nothing to offer in the stretch and was not persevered with when hopelessly behind.
