SCRATCHY APACHE was four wide through the first turn, turned down the backstretch with the rider trying desperately to temper the pace, responded when asked to go on three furlongs from the finish, got an inside run into the stretch, finished well under steady handling and just held off a determined rival on the outside. LAST MARTINI settled well back early, launched a sustained bid after passing the half-mile marker, came three wide into the stretch and continued to run on late, was gaining steadily on SCRATCHY APACHE but ran out of time and just missed. YOU KIDDING ME raced close up three wide under a light hold, loomed three wide to vie for the lead down the backstretch with SIDE STREET DAVE and BEL RAGAZZO, went on with that last named rival from the five-sixteenths, could not get by that stubborn foe until the last jump but was beaten to the finish by the top pair on the inside. BEL RAGAZZO went sent agressively from the start and seized the early lead on the first bend, turned back every challenge to the stretch, battled gamely with YOU KIDDING ME in the late stages, dig in gamely with good courage but was outfinished. SIDE STREET DAVE broke well and got good position just behind BEL RAGAZZO through the clubhouse turn, pulled even down the backstretch while joined by YOU KIDDING ME then dropped out approaching the quarter pole and tired in the stretch. ITS FIVE SOMEWHERE was unhurried from the break, dropped to last early on the backstretch run, continued to lose ground on the far turn stayed on the inside and was kept to task down the lane. RELAXED ARTIST (IRE) chased close up for a half-mile, then came under a ride on the turn, was unable to keep up and had little to offer in the stretch.
