CROWN COUNCIL broke sharply while breaking outwards in the opening strides, but raced into a tracking trip two out from the rail entering the first turn, raced three wide in the run down the backstretch while continuing from a tracking position, launched his bid two out from the rail entering the final turn, and wore down a stubborn PRIME DIRECTIVE in the closing strides to prevail. PRIME DIRECTIVE away alertly and dueled for the lead from the outside of GOLDEN REGAL entering the first turn, continued to force the issue two wide in the run down the backside, took the narrowest of advantages into the final turn, maintained that advantage into the lane, and just failed to last. PICKLEDAGAIN stalked the contested early pace from the back of a compact field entering the first turn, commenced his bid smartly from just off the rail entering the final turn, and closed willingly in the drive from along the inside to garner a share. GOLDEN REGAL rushed up from along the rail to vie from the early lead entering the first turn, set a pressured pace in the run down the backstretch, was unable to match strides with his pace rival entering the final turn, and weakened over the final furlong.
