Chart notes
GRAPNEL was off a step slow but rushed up to take a clear lead past the five-furlong pole, led the way through the turn, responded to strong handling and urging in the stretch, and held clear to the finish. IMMELMANN tracked between horses in the initial stages, then took up the chase on the turn, loomed a mild threat at the top of the stretch but could not reel in the winner, finished well to save the place. CLAY'S BLACK OPAL was shuffled back after the start, settled four-wide down the backstretch, was put into a full-out drive from the quarter pole, found best stride a little too late and surged in the final yards. MY GOOD GOOD BOY broke well, tracked close between rivals to the turn, made a mild bid under a drive approaching the quarter pole, finished willingly but lacked the winning kick. JOHNNY APPLESEED was very slow into stride and dropped far back early, chased through the turn and passed a couple of tired rivals late but was otherwise never a factor. IMA BLING CAT raced five-wide in the early stages, dropped down to the inside for the run through the turn, steadied briefly near the quarter pole, tried to rally in the stretch but went one-paced and could not threaten. COUNT DE MONET broke sharply and was briefly in front, tracked the pace setter inside to the turn, then struggled to keep up and faltered in the lane.
