Chart notes
SENOR ROJO was pushed to get forward position from the break, chased the leading pair through the turn, then moved up to challenge for the lead approaching the top of the stretch, struggled to get past a stubborn APURO through the stretch, mutually bumped with that one just before the finish, then got a favorable bob at the line. APURO dueled inside of HOMER WELLS through the early stages, shook that one off leaving the quarter pole, then engaged in a spirited battle with SENOR ROJO through the stretch, gamely held that rival at bay, came out a bit in the final yards, and bumped just before the finish, then came up on the short end of the photo. GONE GREY was close up early while under a ride, lost some ground through the turn, but kept to task and saved ground through the turn to earn the third spot. PEVS DISTANT DRUM was allowed to settle from the break and was last early, moved up three-wide on the turn, then had trouble changing leads in the stretch and flattened out. DIABLO ROSSO got a level start but retreated to the rear down the backstretch, then lacked a rally. HOMER WELLS dueled outside of APURO to the stretch, drifted in while under the crop in upper stretch, and faded. RUNDOFT refused to break, was unsaddled at the gate and walked off. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE START, AND ALSO A REVIEW OF THE STRETCH RUN NEAR THE FINISH. IN THE REVIEW OF THE START THE STEWARDS RULED THAT #1 RUNDOFT WAS GIVEN A FAIR START BUT REFUSED TO BREAK, AND IN THE OTHER INCIDENT IT WAS RULED THAT NO ACTION WAS NECESSARY. This race had a timing malfunction or discrepancy and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate time.
