PACIFICISLANDTIME got caught four-wide into the clubhouse turn, vied three-wide for the lead down the backstretch, was left behind at the three-furlong pole when the pace quickened, chased the three leaders into the stretch, came out four-wide, then carried out two or three paths by the inside foes, found a little more in deep stretch, and outlasted GRAND ACADEMIC to prevail by a narrow margin. GRAND ACADEMIC broke through the gate before the start, then was the inside horse in the three-way pace battle up front, kicked ahead with HEGS and EL PERFECTO from the three-furlong pole, kept on late while the other two started to falter, but could not hold off the resurgent winner in the final yards. MR. FAVERSHAM trailed the field to the half-mile marker, started to run on through the far turn, bid six-wide into the stretch, then angled to the inside past the furlong marker, finished with good interest but had to settle for third. DATE THE PRINCE settled well off the pace and stayed on well. EL PERFECTO was three-wide in the tracking group,m moved up to join the leading trip approaching the half-mile pole, battled three-wide into the stretch, drifted out in mid-stretch, and faltered in the final furlong. HEGS bobbled slightly at the start, vied between horses in the early pace mix, then gave way in deep stretch. COFFEE COUNTY broke through the gate before the start and was reloaded, settled inside with the second group of three for the first half-mile, started to lose ground after that, and had nothing to give in the stretch.
