Chart notes
AL REICHERT settled well back while saving ground as the field spread across the track, launched a bid leaving the three-furlong pole, then tipped four-wide into the stretch and rallied strongly to run down the leaders in the final strides, drawing clear to prevail. ABELIEFINTHISLIVIN pressed the pace four-wide throughout, remained within striking range as the leaders battled through the middle stages, then loomed a serious threat approaching the stretch and finished willingly but could not reach the winner. FIREMAN DAN seized the rail and the lead from the start, faced persistent pressure from as many as three rivals while maintaining his advantage through the early stages, then dug in gamely when challenged turning for home and fought on stubbornly through the stretch before yielding to the winner late. LORD OF BATTLE pressed the pace three-wide, stayed within contention as the leading group spread across the track, and remained in the fight into the final furlong before weakening in the late stages. DIOCLES was held up early and wrangled back to the rear, settled well off the pace outside AL REICHERT through the first lap, then launched a bid before the quarter pole but flattened out in the stretch and was unable to pose a late threat. RONDELITO shadowed FIREMAN DAN from the outset while held under a snug hold, remained close to the leader through the first three-quarters of a mile, then gave way before the quarter pole and dropped out of contention.
