Chart notes
RISK CAPITAL dueled to the outside of SOMBRERO NEGRO, took a slight lead turning into the stretch, then finished well under steady handling and just held on from a fast closing rival on the outside. FORT SUMNER hesitated and was off a beat slow, tracked the dueling leaders two-wide in the second pair, came out four-wide for the stretch run, finished up well under left-handed urging, close in and just missed at the wire. HOLY MISS was outpaced early, then responded when asked to launch a bid approaching the three-furlong pole, made a sustained, steady run three to four wide through the turn and into the stretch, was mildly gaining on the top two but was never a serious threat. CASH WATERFALL backed off the pace to a stalking position, made a decent try up the rail in the stretch, but hung a bit in the late stages. SOMBRERO NEGRO ducked out at the start but was able to challenge RISK CAPITAL for the early lead, battled that one to the stretch, then weakened in the last furlong. AMERICAN CENTURY broke outward, launched a mild four-wide bid through the turn, swung out to about the seven-path for the stretch run but lacked the needed late response. PUNCTUAL THYME broke in the air, then steadied and altered course to the inside just after the start, then chased two-wide near the back of the main pack, then lacked a finish. RUNAWAY VALENTINE had the head turned as the gates opened and came away awkwardly, raced erratically and wide through the early stages, was kept wide while chasing the rest from the back, but was unable to threaten. CALL ME RAY was slow into stride after the break, moved up to mid-pack along the inside before the turn, was under a stiff hand ride midway through the turn, then faltered in the drive.
